See what the quote assumes
Include material, setup and run times for each operation in the estimate. Keep the inputs together so you can explain the price and review the assumptions on a repeat enquiry.

Quote the material, setup and run time behind a machined component, then compare the estimate with recorded production work. Jems brings costing, part information and shop-floor tracking together for UK precision engineers, from one-off jobs to repeat batches.
Estimate, manufacture & review
A repeat component is only as predictable as the assumptions behind its quote. See the material, operation times and recorded work together, so your team can investigate the difference and decide what to change.

Follow an illustrative order for 50 machined brackets. Start with the setup and run-time assumptions, record the machining work, then see how a 45-minute difference informs the next estimate.
01 / Estimate
The material and each operation form the basis of the quote. Here is the machining operation for a repeat bracket order.
Explore setup & run-time costing| Machining input | Sample value |
|---|---|
| Batch quantity | 50 brackets |
| Set up hours | 1.00 hour |
| Minutes per item | 4 minutes |
A one-hour setup plus four minutes for each of 50 brackets gives 4 hours 20 minutes of estimated machining time.
02 / Manufacture
Works orders and operations give the office and shop floor a shared reference. Record time as the machining work is performed.
Explore works orders & time capture| Job information | Sample value |
|---|---|
| Part | BRK-050 |
| Operation | Machining |
| Recorded time | 5 hours 5 minutes |
Recorded work gives you something concrete to compare with the assumptions used in the quote.
03 / Review
Operational variance helps you review standard and actual work. Use the result to investigate why a repeat job took longer.
Explore estimating & variance| Machining time | Sample value |
|---|---|
| Estimated | 4 hours 20 minutes |
| Recorded | 5 hours 5 minutes |
| Difference | 45 minutes longer |
Was it the setup, the run time or an interruption? Review the job with your team before changing the next estimate.
Check your requirements
Bring a component drawing, a quote and a repeat job where recorded time differed from the estimate.
Material and operation estimates, setup and run times, part versions and drawings, works orders, progress and time capture, and operational variance.
Your CAD/CAM tools, machine connectivity, material certificates and customer approval records. Include any customer-supplied material and the inspection evidence you need.
Scheduling is targeted for Q4 2026. Subcontracting and Engineering Change Control are on the 2027 roadmap. See the product roadmap for development targets.

Start with a representative job. Agree the software fit, the data to bring across and the help your team needs before implementation begins.
Bring a component drawing, a quote and your setup/run-time assumptions. We’ll follow the job into works orders and recorded time, then discuss the variance questions your team needs to answer.
Book your workflow demoWe assess your current system, records and history, then agree migration coverage, validation, training and responsibilities. Your team checks representative jobs before the planned cutover.

Yes. Production operations include setup and run-time information that can form part of the job estimate alongside materials. We can use one of your components to demonstrate the costing inputs and resulting quote.
Jems connects customer quotes and orders with part structures, material requirements and works orders. These records support quoting a new component and planning work for parts you make repeatedly. Bring an example of each so we can follow how your team prepares and releases the work.
Current production functionality includes works orders, operation routing, progress and time capture. Scheduling is planned for Q4 2026. It is separate from the production-tracking functionality available today; see the roadmap for development targets.
We review the data, workflows and history you need before agreeing a migration scope and price. Implementation is quoted separately from the subscription. The iCaps replacement page explains that assessment process; we can also discuss other systems and spreadsheets.
The same Jems Standard subscription applies across these industry workflows: £1,249 per month excluding VAT, including 10 full-access users and 25 shop-floor-only workers. Additional access is sold in blocks; larger deployments receive a tailored quote. Implementation, migration and training are scoped and quoted separately. Use the team pricing calculator to explore your subscription.
We agree a timetable after reviewing your data, workflows and training needs. The scope defines the records and history to migrate, validation checks, responsibilities and the planned cutover. Your team has time to check migrated records and test representative jobs before go-live.
