Manufacturing quoting & costing

Quote the job.
Learn from the work.

Jems connects manufacturing quotes to materials, bills of materials and production operations. Keep the estimate close to the job information, then use recorded production time and operational variance to review how the work compared with the plan.

Before you send the quote

Keep materials
and operations in view.

A manufacturing quote needs more than a selling price. It needs the parts required, their quantities and costs, and the operations involved in making or assembling the product. Jems brings these details into the quoting workflow rather than leaving the estimate disconnected from production.

For example, a control assembly might need an enclosure, a PCB assembly, connectors, wiring and several assembly operations. Reviewing the component requirements alongside the operations gives your team a clearer basis for discussing the quote.

Supported supplier integrations provide live pricing and stock information inside Jems. The available coverage depends on the supplier integration; we check your supplier list during a demo rather than assuming that every catalogue is connected.

Ownership changes the estimate

Supplied by the customer.
Still needed for the job.

Customer-supplied material still needs to appear in the manufacturing requirements. Jems supports free-issue requirements while retaining the same part record for purchased and customer-owned material. Your team can consider material ownership as part of the workflow without creating a second catalogue part just for free issue.

During your demo, we can walk through a quote with a mixture of purchased and customer-supplied components, then follow the requirements into the order and production workflow. See customer-owned material management for more detail.

After the work

Compare the estimate
with recorded time.

Shop-floor tracking records production time and job progress. Operational variance reporting helps your team review differences between estimated and recorded operation time, so a completed job can inform the next quote.

The result depends on the information recorded by your team. Accurate operation definitions and consistent time recording matter: a report can highlight a difference, but your team still needs to understand whether it came from setup, rework, a changed requirement or an estimate that needs adjusting.

Bring a quote that currently needs a supporting spreadsheet, together with a representative BOM and operations. We’ll show how Jems handles the workflow and identify any reporting or process requirements to scope separately.

Your questions

Quoting in Jems.

Is quoting a separate paid module?

Quoting is included in Jems Standard alongside sales, purchasing, stock, MRP and production workflows. See the current package and user limits. Implementation and bespoke work are quoted separately.

Can we configure products automatically?

Product Configurator is planned for Q4 2026 and is not yet available. We review your current quoting and configuration requirements during the assessment.

Can we see material requirements after quoting?

Jems connects quoting with the wider order and production workflow. Explore MRP and material planning, or ask us to follow a representative job through a demo.
