Fabrication & metalwork

ERP for metal
fabrication & assemblies.

See the material and workshop time behind each fabricated job, then compare the estimate with recorded work. Jems brings costing, stock, purchasing and production tracking together for brackets, enclosures, welded frames and fabricated assemblies.

Material, operations & recorded work

See where workshop time differs from the quote.

Cutting, forming, welding and assembly each add work to a fabricated job. Keep the material requirements and operation assumptions together, then review recorded time before estimating a similar batch.

Manufacturing workflows to explore

  • Brackets & enclosures
  • Welded frames
  • Formed components
  • Fabricated assemblies

Price the work as well as the metal

Include setup and run times for cutting, forming, welding and assembly alongside the material requirements. Keep the assumptions visible when preparing and reviewing the customer’s quote.

Know the material requirement

Bring BOM quantities together with stock locations and purchasing. Keep trace numbers and ownership with the material records, including metal or components supplied by the customer.

Explore stock & traceability →

Review what happened in the workshop

Record progress and time against works orders and operations. Compare the recorded work with the estimate to investigate where a job took longer and inform the next quote.

Explore production tracking →

An example fabrication job

A batch of welded equipment frames.

Follow an illustrative batch of 10 welded frames. Review the component quantities, estimate welding setup and run time, then compare that estimate with the work recorded.

01 / Define the material

Start with the sections, brackets and fittings.

Build the frame's BOM around the material and components used in each assembly, with the drawing alongside the part.

Explore material requirements
Define the material · sample job information
Component Per frame For 10 frames
Cut section 4 40
Formed bracket 4 40
Fitting 8 80

The component quantities give material planning and purchasing a shared starting point for the batch.

02 / Estimate the work

Make workshop time part of the quote.

Estimate setup and run time for cutting, forming, welding and assembly. This example shows the welding operation.

Explore material & operation costing
Estimate the work · sample job information
Welding input Sample value
Batch quantity 10 frames
Set up hours 0.50 hour
Minutes per item 18 minutes

Half an hour of setup plus 18 minutes for each frame gives 3 hours 30 minutes of estimated welding time.

03 / Review time

See where the welding estimate differed.

Capture time against the production operation, then compare the recorded work with the estimate.

Explore production & time capture
Review time · sample job information
Welding time Sample value
Estimated 3 hours 30 minutes
Recorded 4 hours
Difference 30 minutes longer

Review the reason for the additional time before quoting a similar frame. Material nesting and cutting optimisation are assessed separately.

Check your requirements

Start with your job.
Check the important detail.

Bring an assembly drawing, a material list and a quote with the cutting, forming, welding and assembly operations.

Available to demonstrate

BOM quantities, material and operation estimates, stock, trace numbers, purchasing, customer-owned material, works orders and production time capture.

Assess with our team

Offcuts, sheet utilisation, nesting, material certificates and outside finishing. Material requirements planning does not provide nesting or cutting optimisation.

Planned development

Scheduling is targeted for Q4 2026. Subcontracting and broader Production Quality are on the 2027 roadmap. See the product roadmap for development targets.

Your questions

Jems for fabrication & metalwork.

Can we cost cutting, forming and welding separately?

Yes. Production operations can represent the work you perform, with setup and run-time information forming part of the estimate. Bring your operation list and costing assumptions so we can demonstrate a representative fabricated job.

Does Jems provide sheet nesting or cutting optimisation?

These pages describe material requirements, BOMs and production operations rather than a nesting application. Include your nesting tools, cutting plans and offcut processes in the assessment so we can check how they would sit alongside Jems.

Can a customer supply the metal or components?

Yes. Jems records purchased and customer-owned material against the same catalogue part, with ownership and free-issue requirements retained. Explore customer-owned material for the workflow.

How do outside finishing and inspection fit?

Bring an example of the coating, finishing or other outside work you arrange, along with the inspection evidence you need. Goods-in inspection, quarantine and returns are current workflows; dedicated Subcontracting and broader Production Quality are planned for 2027. We review your requirements against that distinction.

What does Jems cost for this manufacturing workflow?

The same Jems Standard subscription applies across these industry workflows: £1,249 per month excluding VAT, including 10 full-access users and 25 shop-floor-only workers. Additional access is sold in blocks; larger deployments receive a tailored quote. Implementation, migration and training are scoped and quoted separately. Use the team pricing calculator to explore your subscription.

How long does implementation take?

We agree a timetable after reviewing your data, workflows and training needs. The scope defines the records and history to migrate, validation checks, responsibilities and the planned cutover. Your team has time to check migrated records and test representative jobs before go-live.
